Doris Elaine Woodward, age 92, of Winona, died on Sunday, December 18, at Ave Maria Place, Callista Court.
She was born in Winona County on January 14, 1924, the daughter of Leonard and Linda (Wilkins) Strelow.
On January 28, 1942, she married Sherman A. Woodward in the parsonage of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2002.
She was a member of St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona. She was also a member of the American Legion Axillary Post No. 9, Winona, where she was a past secretary and past president.
Doris graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1941 and then the Winona Vocational Technical School with a secretarial degree. She farmed alongside her husband for many years before they moved into Winona in 1963. She worked at NECO Ordinance and the Winona Vocational Technical School, before taking a position as an accounts payable clerk at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota where she worked for 16 years before retiring in 1987.
Among the many things she especially enjoyed were camping, gardening, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, knitting, genealogy, and her book club. She and Sherman also enjoyed traveling in their RV with their two dogs for a few years — seeing many beautiful places around the country. Later before moving to Callista Court, she enjoyed her daily coffee club that met at Hardee’s in Winona.
She is survived by her children, Sherman C. (Carol) Woodward of Minnesota City, Minn., Gerald (Kathy) Woodward of Fort Collins, Colo., Judi Woodward of St. Paul, Minn., Lynn (Timothy) Rockwell of Winona; grandchildren, Sherri (Rick) Bollin, James Woodward, Lisa (Scott) Ledebuhr, Brian Woodward, Heather Woodward, Lonnie Schafer, Ron Schafer, Shannon Johnson, Tanya (Chad) Carlson, Matthew Rockwell, Taylor Rockwell; 14 great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; brother, Allan Strelow, Rochester, Minn.; and many, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister.
