Iona M. Midtovne, 89, of Rochester and formerly of Winona, died on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Iona Marie was born on April 21, 1928, in Winona, Minn., to Walter and Ivo (Marsh) Renspie. In September 1947, she married Willie Midtovne. They lived in White, S.D., on the Midtovne family farm, where she became a farm wife and raised their six children in a house without electricity or indoor plumbing. She was a very hard worker and loved gardening.
Iona is survived by three daughters, Edith (John “Pete”) Peterson, Sioux Falls, S.D., Krystal Marie Sunshine, Watertown, S.D., and Virginia (Don) Zuraff, Tyler, Minn.; one son, Clifford (Joy) Midtovne, Red Wing, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Neyers, Bradley, Ill.; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, William and Lyle Midtovne; two grandchildren, Matthew Midtovne and Tracy Handel; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Midtovne and Hattie Wang; and a sister, Dolores.
Funeral services for Iona will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 120 Pleasant Hill Drive, Winona. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, Minn.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 24, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona.
