Glenn M. Gerdes, 82, of La Crescent, Minn., died on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born on November 27, 1934, in La Crosse, to Michael and Helen (Nagle) Gerdes. Glenn married Shirley Herberg on September 7, 1963. He ran a junkyard and trailer park for many years, and then worked at Charlie Brothers Manufacturing and then Mathy Construction until his retirement. Glenn was an excellent bowler his entire life and after retirement became an avid golfer. He was one of the handiest guys around and could do anything. Together he and Shirley delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years.
He is survived by three cousins, Jim and Angie Hofer, Verna Gerdes, and Charlotte Gerdes; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Adrian) Morchinek and Georgia (Carl) Lee; a brother-in-law, David Herberg; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Harlan Nelson, Richard (Marcia) Nissalke, John (Cindy) Scheil, Wayne (Judy) Erdman and Richard (Karen) Morchinek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, La Crescent. Pastor Kent Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery, Whitehall, Wis. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Clara House in La Crescent. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crescent are in charge of arrangements.
