Nation, James ‘Jim’ Arthur

James “Jim” Arthur Nation, age 78, of Winona, Minn., joined his wife, Thelma, in Heaven on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, after an aggressive, but brief fight with stage-four lung cancer.

Jim was born on July 19, 1939, in Fremont, to Alfred and Gladys Nation. On January 12, 1963, Jim was united in marriage to Thelma Bolstad at Central Lutheran Church in Winona. To this union they were blessed with three stubborn, hard-headed children just like their parents, Jeffery, Cheryl and Scott.

Jim retired from Gorman’s Foundry as a core operator, and spent the following years doing what he loved. As an avid garage saler, frequent auction attendee, and camping fiend, he kept himself busy. In his down time, it wasn’t uncommon to find working in his yard, or drinking a Bloody Mary (his favorite) with family and camp friends at Champions in Galesville.

Jim is survived by his sister, Helen (Arthur) Baker; brother, Jerry (Judy) Nation; sons, Jeff Nation, Scott (Valorie) Nation; daughter, Sherry Nation (Jim Olson); fiancee, Donna Bartelson; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and honorary family members; his beloved canine friends, Buddy and Sissy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; parents, Alfred and Gladys; brothers, Alvie, Roger (MaryLou) Nation; sister, Dorothy (Marvin) Wicka.

Well-wishers and those who cannot attend the service are encouraged to write a note of farewell on a Miller Lite beer can and drink it in his honor.

A visitation will be on Monday, May 21, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home. His funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. with visitation starting at 10 a.m. at Central Lutheran Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Cody Meyer, Branden Nation, Danielle Nation, Justin Nation, Travis Nation, Shane Crutcher, Sydney Nation, and Derrick Carpenter.
