Schaffner, Ruth Anastasia (Cyert)

June 4, 1931 - May 20, 2018

Ruth Anastasia (Cyert) Schaffner had a happy and adventurous life. Ruth and her husband Virgil managed Schaffner’s Plumbing and Heating for 36 years, acquiring the family business from Virgil’s father – Fred Schaffner. This local business provided new and repair plumbing and heating services for thousands of patrons over the years. Together, they were successful. Neither could have driven the business to success alone.

Ruth earned a teaching certificate from Winona Teacher’s College after growing up and attending primary school in Winona. She had a brief teaching career.

Ruth was very involved with her children growing up. She attended countless school activities for sporting, band, choir events and more. She helped with scouting events as well, serving as cookie chairman and helping with outings.

Ruth loved to travel, alone overseas as a young lady, and with friends and family throughout her lifetime. She travelled to all 50 United States, a dozen countries, and even strolled on the Great Wall of China.

Ruth and Virgil raised seven children, Virgil (Deb), Rita (Steve), Karen (Wes), Paul (Laura), Peter, Jean (Brian) and Mary (Jim); Ruth had 16 grandchildren, Rick (Therese), Tim (Danielle) and Dan Schaffner, Katlyn and Andrew Simon, David, Joey, Conrad and Karter Domine, CeeJay and Brennan Schaffner, Jeffrey, Patrick and Henry Suttie, Zach and Cole Zmijski. Ruth was blessed with four great-grandchildren as well, Cooper, Ellie, Joseph, Aubree.
