Christopher John Schultz, born on March 11, 1972, died unexpectedly at his home from natural causes on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. He graduated from Waterford Mott High School in Waterford, Mich., in 1990. He attended Oakland Community College there and began a career in computer science. He also graduated from the police academy and served as a reserve officer in Waterford. Chris was in senior management at General Motors headquarters as a computer specialist for many years. He relocated to Minnesota in 2014 to be closer to his loved ones.
From early on Chris had a curiosity about how things worked which he channeled into racing remote-control cars. He later began racing dirt bikes, karts and UTVs. In May 2017 he fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a gunsmith and opening a gun shop in Stockton, Minn. He held a special place in his heart for veterans, the military and law enforcement.
Chris was very active in many different shooting clubs and competitions. He thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie with his fellow competitors. He had a knack for making everyone feel special. He always had time to lend a helping hand. Every friend was a lifelong friend to Chris. He will be greatly missed by many.
Chris is survived by his parents, Bill and Mary Schultz, Rollingstone, Minn.; sister, Rebecca (Phil) Rademacher, Lakeville, Minn.; his loving and supportive partner of 15 years, Sarah Taubel; nephews, Jack and Ryan Rademacher; and his trusty sidekick wiener dog, Stanley; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and innumerable friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone with the Reverend Father Chinnappa Pothireddy officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday from 4-7 p.m. concluding with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and they may call at the church on Saturday one hour before the Mass. Memorials are preferred to the Winona Area Humane Society. The Abbott Funeral Home & Crematory of Wabasha is in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
