Men's and Women's adult basketball registration
Team registration is now being taken at the Park Recreation Office for Men's and Women's Basketball. The deadline for this registration is Monday, November 7, 2005, at 4:30 p.m., with play anticipated to begin the last week of November or first week in December and finish in Mid-March. To register, contact the Park & Recreation office to be sent the registration information. The team's total fees of $310.00 and a preliminary roster are due at the time of registration. Do not wait until the last minute to register or you may be too late to get in and your teammates may not be too happy with you. It is our intent to offer three Men's Division's; Division I, II, and III; providing we get enough teams in each division. We anticipate Div. I and Div. II playing on Monday nights and Div. III on Thursdays at Winona State University. It is our intent to offer one Women's Division. We anticipate the Women's League playing on Wednesday nights at the Winona Middle School. Information has been sent out to all of previous managers. Any manager who did not receive the information or any new teams interested in registering, please call the Park Recreation Office and we will send you the information or if you wish, you may stop in City Hall and we will give you the necessary information. MSHSL and WIAA Certified Adult Basketball ooficials needed
The Winona Park Recreation Department is in need of Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Certified or Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Certified Basketball Officials to work our Adult Men's and Women's Basketball games. We anticipate our leagues beginning the last week of November or first week in December, ending in Mid-March. We anticipate our Men's Div. I & Div. II playing on Monday nights and Div. III playing on Thursday nights at Winona State University and our Women's League on Wednesday nights at the Winona Middle School. YOU MUST BE A CERTIFIED OFFICIAL TO WORK ANY OUR GAMES. To receive certification information for Minnesota, you must contact the MSHSL office at (763) 560-2262 and they will send you the necessary information. You must attend a mandatory rules interpretation meeting. The closest Minnesota meeting to us is held on Thursday, November 3, 2005 at Rochester Mayo High School Cafeteria at 7:00 p.m. To receive certification information for Wisconsin, you must contact the WIAA office at (715-344-8580) and they will send you the necessary information. There are no WIAA Rule interpretation meetings to attend to be certified in Wisconsin this year.(Note: You can receive "reciprocity" to officiate in both states by registering in one state or the other, go to the Minnesota rules meeting, pay an extra $10.00 fee and fill out the reciprocity form.) If you are certified or plan to be certified and are interested in working or subbing for our Adult Basketball Leagues, please stop in at the Park Rec. Office in the basement of City Hall to pick up an application and availability form as soon as possible, or call our office at 457-8258 and we will send you the forms. Officials will receive
$18.25 per game (running time clock about 50 minutes) in which you would usually be working two or three games per night. Barring Council approval starting January 1, 2006 officials will receive $18.35 per game.
Adult Basketball scorekeeper/timers needed
The Winona Park Recreation Department is in need of scorekeepers/timers for our Adult Men's and Women's Basketball games. WINTER PROGRAMS ARE OPEN FOR
The basketball camp is designed to give each participant the kind of training that is essential for new improvement. Over the course of the camp, player's self-confidence will grow along with their skills and overall appreciation of the game. Grades 1 & 2 run from 9-10:30 a.m. and Grades 3 & 4 run from 11:00-12:30 p.m. on Saturdays starting January 14 through March 11, 2006 at the East Recreation Center. Fee is $18 resident and $28 non-resident, register early- maximum is 50 in each Grade level.
Adult Men's and Women's Volleyball Leagues
Registration starts November 1st through November 23, 2005. The fee is $270 per team. Pick up registration packets at the Park Rec. office. Games will begin the first week of December and continue through mid-March.
Recreation Center Hours
The East Rec. Center new hours are September to May 31, 2006 will be Monday through Fridays, 3-9 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday from 1-9 p.m. The West Rec. Center new hours are September to May 31, 2006, 6-9 p.m. and Saturday & Sundays from 1-9 p.m.
Fundraiser Event for 4th Ward Park
The Winona Park Recreation Department and Rosie's will be doing a Pork Steak dinner fundraiser for 4th Ward Park on October 29, 2005 from 11 a.m. till gone at Rosie's at 1000 East King St. Dinner includes Pork Steak, baked potatoe, beans and a bun for $6.50. Will deliver if 3 or more. Contact Mike at 429-2186 or Rosie at 452-9994 for tickets. Funds will go toward improvements to the 4th Ward Park playground area.
Activities Cancellation Number
For your convenience, the Winona Recreation Department has a cancellation number that you can call in case of bad weather, call 457-8220. If you feel a game, practice or special event might be cancelled; you may call this number. Listen carefully and follow the directions given on the recording. If there is no recording or an outdated recording, it means that there are NO CANCELLATIONS at that time. Cancellations will also be made on the radio stations. Please use this service instead of calling our office number.
Lodge and Shelter Rentals
Need a lodge or shelter for your family gathering, picnic, wedding, baby shower, graduation, birthday party, etc. You can chose from Holzinger Lodge, Lake Park Lodge, Valley Oaks Lodge, Jaycee Shelter, Lions Shelter, Kiwanis Shelter, Latsch Shelter, Gilmore Valley Shelter, Windom Park or Rose Garden Gazebo and the Bandshell. We are now taking bookings for the current year and the 2006 season. Reservations are required in person, full payment and a valid driver's license.
Having a picnic or event and you need a volleyball, basketball, bingo, Frisbees, horseshoes, gunny sacks, etc. Winona Recreation Department has equipment that you can rent out for your event. Stop in and complete the rental request form at least 3 days prior to when you need the equipment.
Lost and found items
If you have lost any items, such as keys, softball gloves, jackets, etc. During our programs or when using our facilities, we may have them in our lost and found box at the Recreation office, City Hall. Please stop in to identify the items.
City Hall office hours
All City Hall offices on September 7, 2005 begin their fall/winter office hours through Memorial Day. These offices will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday only.
Active Wellness Center
Do you want stronger arms for better hugs? Or do you want to age on your own terms, then come to the new Active Wellness Center at the Senior Friendship Center. Memberships available for persons 55 and over. Stop in the Recreation Department in City Hall, to purchase your membership or call the Winona Senior Friendship Center at 454-5212 for more information on our Active Wellness Center. As of December 1st, it is time to renew your 2004 membership, stop in the Recreation office to get your 2005 membership, and please remember to bring your 2004 membership tag with you.
