Winona Noon Lions fill 605 Christmas food baskets

(12/25/2011)

On Wednesday, December 21, the Winona Noon Lions filled food baskets with all the fixings for a Christmas dinner. Several Lions from the Sunset Lions assisted in this worthwhile project. The local Lions and Winona Volunteer Services have partnered together for many years and each year the number of families in need steadily increases.

The Lions arrived at Volunteer Services around 4:30 and began assembling the boxes. At 5:00 they organize an assembly line with each item, to be packed, arranged in stations. At this point the crew of workers will take their stations. Some stand aside each food item and places them in the boxes which are carried along until the order is filled. They are the placed in stacks five boxes in a column. When the job was finished the work room was filled with 121 columns. The entire project was completed by 6:30.

On the following morning, the families receiving the meals arrived. Each family picked up their holiday meal and continued on to their homes. Many of these families were contributors to Volunteer Services in years past. The Winona Lions are grateful to play a part in this wonderful expression of Christmas cheer.
