Vehicle sideswipes patrol car

(12/20/2006)

On December 17, at 2:50 a.m. the Buffalo County Sheriff's Department responded to a hit- and-run accident in the town of Belvidere at the intersection of STH 35 and County Road N.

A Wisconsin State Patrol officer was driving north on STH 35 in a marked patrol car when a lone vehicle heading south on STH 35 came into radar at 82 mph in the 55 mph zone. As the vehicle was approaching the officer, the vehicle crossed the centerline of the highway, forcing the trooper to take evasive action. The vehicle sideswiped the patrol car as the trooper left the roadway entering the ditch. The trooper was able to reenter the highway and pursued the suspect vehicle. The trooper said the vehicle accelerated away from him and he lost sight of the vehicle near the village of Cochrane. Evidence was collected at the accident scene and will be examined to determine the vehicle make and model. The trooper was not hurt in the accident. Buffalo County authorities are asking for the public to call with any information and they can remain anonymous. 608-685-4433.
