A Wabasha County deputy suffered fractures in both of his legs following a head-on collision with a stolen car in the city of Wabasha.

Deputy Andrew Hamann, 30, of Rochester, was struck by the stolen vehicle driven by Brandon Lastine, 22, of Wabasha, at about 7:30 a.m. on Christmas Day on Hiawatha Drive in front of the Wabasha Fire Department. Lastine was reportedly in the wrong lane after passing another vehicle in the 30 mph zone when he struck the deputy’s squad head-on. The vehicle had just been reported stolen, according to police.

The Wabasha Fire Department had to extricate both drivers of the vehicles. There were no passengers.

Hamann and Lastine were both transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries. The Wabasha Police Department is investigating the crash.
