A large section of the Armory building portion of the Winona County History Center collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a pile of bricks in its wake. The section was about 50 feet wide and about four feet tall, along the north side of the building where the wall rises above the roof. Historical Society Director Mark Peterson said that there were no holes created by the collapse that connected with the interior of the building and that no water leaks had been detected. It also doesn’t appear that the award-winning new History Center addition was damaged by the collapse. Workers cleared excess snow from the roof of the Armory section on Thursday to avoid any further damage.
