Winona Volunteer Services will host a “Silpada” party on March 25 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned food item to be entered into a drawing to win a half-priced jewelry item. For those who cannot attend, jewelry may be ordered online at http://sild.es/rQX.
Winona Volunteer Services has a goal during the Minnesota Food Share March Campaign to raise 25,000 pounds of food and $33,000 in cash donations. Donations can be made online at www.winonavs.org.
Great reasons to give
Your food donations are placed directly in the food shelf for immediate use by area families. In 2013, WVS distributed 447,063 pounds of food to an average of 906 households per month.
Cash donations help the food shelf buy food from the Channel One Food Bank at considerable savings. With your dollar donations, WVS purchased 195,162 pounds of food last year.
March is the only time of year that your food and cash donations can leverage additional dollars for the food shelf!! The more WVS collects, the larger its Incentive Allocation is from Minnesota Food Share and the Alan Feinstein Foundation of Rhode Island.
You can donate without leaving home during the Sugar Loaf District Boy Scout Food Drive on Saturday, March 22. Boy Scouts will come directly to your neighborhood and pick up your food donation.
The food shelf exists because of your generosity. By contributing to the food shelf during the March campaign, you become a WVS hero fighting hunger.
All food and cash donations must be returned to Winona Volunteer Services by Friday, April 7, in order to be counted in this campaign.
