In January 2015 Head Start of Families First was awarded an Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership grant. This grant funds collaborations between Families First, local Head Start programs, and local childcare programs. Patrick Gannon, Families First director, said, “We look forward to strengthening these partnerships and continuing to lay a foundation for success for our community’s at-risk children”.
In the Winona region, Semcac Early Head Start will partner with the Winona Area Public Schools Childcare Center at the Area Learning Center (ALC) to expand high quality early learning opportunities for the most vulnerable infants and toddlers. Early Head Start provides young children and their families with an array of comprehensive services, including health, nutritional, behavioral, and family services.
The ALC childcare center is a licensed center designed to serve infants and toddlers, with teen parents as a priority. The center will offer slots to other EHS eligible families and to the general community as well. The center will offer full-time care year round and will begin services on September 1, 2015.
Semcac Early Head Start is currently taking applications for Early Head Start eligible families. For application information, contact Erin Richards at 507-454-2151, extension four.
Registration for childcare slots for the general community will begin in on July 15. For information on registration at the childcare center, contact Kathy Calvey or Margaret Schild at 507-494-0900.
