Congratulations to Cotter choir students Jessica Kohner, Anne Galke, Emmalee Mohan, Mikaela Mohr, Natalie Smith, Emily Wobig, Rey Huang, and Ben Matzke for participating in the sixth annual Winona State University Honors Choir Festival. The WSU High School Honors Choir performed with the WSU Concert Choir, WSU Women’s Choir, and Winona Oratorio Chorus at the Grand Finale Concert on December 3 in WSU’s Somsen Hall Auditorium. Each choir performed their own selections and all choirs combined for the 24th Annual “Messiah” sing-in. Cotter alumnus Ian Schultz, ’12, is a member of the WSU Concert Choir and ACDA student coordinator of the honors choir festival. Cotter alumnus Zach Bailey, class of 2015, is also a member of the WSU Concert Choir.
Congratulations to Cotter band students for being selected to participate in the WSU honors band music events. Quintus Wang, Stephen Hadaway, Timothy Welch, Alexa Hesch, Tiffany Wang, Benjamin Herber, Samuel Young, and Claire Nichols were selected for the 2016 WSU Honor Band. These students performed in a concert on November 5 with music peers from around the Midwest. The repertoire included many challenging pieces and Cotter band students made their school proud with their fantastic performance!
Representing Cotter’s jazz band musicians at WSU’s event were Jacob French, Stephen Hadaway, Quintus Wang, Connor Walechka, Noah French, and David French. These jazz musicians auditioned and were placed in two jazz bands with clinicians Dave Gudmastad and Ray Dretske. Guest artists from the USAF Shades of Blue Jazz Combo worked individually with the students and the event concluded with a concert on Novemver 12.
