An Iowa man was injured after a vehicle went off the road and rolled into the Mississippi River.
Jeremy M. Rissman, 45, of Waukon, Iowa, was driving on Highway 14/61 east of La Crescent on December 26 at 7:15 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Rissman’s vehicle spun out, crossing over the median and westbound traffic lane. The State Patrol reported that the vehicle went down the embankment and rolled into the river. Officers from the La Crescent Police Department responded, and Chief Doug Stavenau said that the vehicle was upside down in about four feet of water.
Stavenau said that Rissman and his passenger, Michael R. Hitchcock, 42, also of Waukon, Iowa, exited the vehicle before law enforcement arrived. He believes that poor road conditions including black ice on the highway contributed to the accident. The State Patrol reported that Rissman was uninjured and Hitchcock was transported to the hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
