Every Child’s Dream, a project sponsored by Winona’s three Lions Clubs to make Winona playgrounds more accessible to children with disabilities, received a big boost. Coldwell Banker River Valley, Realtors, announced it is committing $5,000-plus to the project.
Coldwell Banker River Valley, Realtors, purchased the Winona office of Coldwell Banker, formerly known as Coldwell Banker Skeels/Moore & Associates, last summer.
“We make a point of investing in the communities we serve, and we’ve been looking for the right project in Winona. This is it,” said Ryan Olson, vice president of Coldwell Banker River Valley, Realtors. “Our aim is to do what we can to help Winona continue to be a great place for our clients to live and our agents to work.”
Funds for the donation will come from the company’s Winona Community Fund and will be matched by donations at each closing by realtors at the company, allowing it to grow well beyond $5,000 over the next three years.
Jack Krage, an agent with Coldwell Banker River Valley, Realtors, chairs the Every Child’s Dream project. “We plan to convert the Lake Winona Playground near the bandshell to create a more inclusive playground. We have a definite need for that in our community.”
Krage noted Winona Area Public Schools classifies 244 children as having some degree of physical challenge. And that doesn’t include children in private or charter schools. The actual number of children with physical challenges in Winona may be as high as — or even exceed — one in ten.
“Every child’s dream is to be able to run, jump and play just like everyone else,” said Krage. “This project will make that dream a reality — allowing every child to play alongside their peers rather than watching from the sidelines. But it will take support of the community to get it done.”
