A 20-year-old Columbia Heights, Minn., man was seriously injured following a fight that broke out at a residence on the 300 block of Center Street during a party. Milton Earl Hines Jr., 23, of Apple Valley, Minn., is currently in custody on charges of fifth-degree assault, and Isaiah Lemuel Elisha Ferguson, 21, of Minneapolis, Minn., faces two counts of assault in the second degree, two counts of assault in the fifth degree, and three counts of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

On Saturday, August 19, at 11:27 p.m., Winona Police officers were dispatched to the residence on Center Street on a report of an assault. According to the criminal complaint, the victim told officers that he was assaulted by several people and hit in the head with a bottle. When officers arrived, the man was reportedly bleeding from his forehead and the back of his head. A video of the fight reportedly showed Hines and Ferguson push and punch the victim. Witnesses allegedly identified Ferguson as the person who hit the victim in the head with a bottle.

Officers reportedly located Ferguson and Hines walking in the area, who they said matched the physical description of the suspects in the video. According to the complaint, when officers were taking Ferguson into custody, he dropped a baggie containing three grams of a substance that field-tested positive for cocaine, two pills containing amphetamine, and one Adderall pill.

On August 21, Judge Jeffrey Thompson set Ferguson’s bail at $10,000 with conditions and $50,000 without. Hines has yet to make his first appearance in court.
