Enjoy nature at night on the Root River Trail! The Moonlight Hoot Scoot is a run/walk with a 5K race and a one-mile fun run, with proceeds benefitting the International Owl Center in Houston, Minn., the only owl education center in North America.
The Hoot Scoot route takes participants out of Houston on the paved Root River Trail at Trailhead Park in Houston, lit only by luminaries and the moon. The event will take place on Saturday, October 21, at 7 and 7:45 p.m. Each participant will get a reusable lighted bracelet for safety as well as a brightly colored Hoot Scoot shirt featuring the race’s fun running owl logo.
There are prizes for the runners/walkers who wear the best owl costumes, as well as for the fastest runners in each age category in the 5K.
The cost to participate is $20 for the one-mile and $25 for the 5K races if registered by October 9. After that date the prices increase $5 and T-shirts are not guaranteed. True procrastinators can even register just before the race.
The Moonlight Hoot Scoot is the evening finale of the day’s Owl-O-Ween event at the International Owl Center, featuring live video programs by the Scottish Owl Centre and the Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre, a bat program at the Houston Nature Center, and a spooked-out natural playground.
