Through Friday, Merchants Bank had collected 142,846 pounds of food for the 10 Days of Giving Food Drive to benefit the food shelf at Winona Volunteer Services (WVS).
This year’s totals include $69,519 in cash and 3,808 pounds of food. For purposes of the calculation, each dollar counts for two pounds of food. WVS can purchase $3 to $3.50 of food for each dollar it receives. Last year, 206,050 pounds of food was collected.
“The Holiday Train is always a great turnout and especially wonderful for families,” said Chad Anderson, who is one of this year’s co-chairs for the drive. “We are thankful for the generosity of those who attend and the generosity of the people who are contributing to other events as well.”
