‘Ireland’ on tap at Over the Back Fence

Audiences of all ages enjoy Lanesboro’s own monthly variety show.

“Ireland” is the theme of the first show of the 24th season of the Over the Back Fence Community Variety Show presented by Lanesboro Arts on Friday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the historic St. Mane Theatre in downtown Lanesboro. Songs like “Johnny Jump Up,” “The Parting Glass” and “The Rattlin’ Bog” will each be part of a festive evening that also includes original skits, jokes, stories, and sing-alongs.

March’s show features musical guest Barbaro, a progressive bluegrass quintet from Minneapolis that began crafting its sound in fall 2016. Featuring seasoned players with experience playing in a variety of other bands, Barbaro employs spicy instrumentals, savory harmonies, and to-the-point songwriting to create a dynamic and captivating set for audiences of all ages and musical tastes.

Host Damon Prestemon brings comedic wit and spot-on improvisational instincts that moves the show forward while bringing out the best of the performers and guests on stage. The talented and charismatic Rachel Storlie of Spring Grove is this month’s musical director. Doors open for seating at 7 p.m. and The Guilty Kilts, an act led by Spring Grove musician Buck Towne that specializes in Irish and Scottish folk music, will provide pre-show music beginning at 7:10 p.m.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online at, in person at the Lanesboro Arts gallery (103 Parkway Avenue North), or at the door at the St. Mane Theatre — as available — beginning at 6:30 p.m. on show nights. The St. Mane Theatre is located at 206 Parkway Avenue North in Lanesboro, Minn.

Over the Back Fence Community Variety Show is produced by Lanesboro Arts and is staged at the St. Mane Theatre on the second Fridays of March through November in 2018. Upcoming shows include “Stars & Planets” on April 13 and “Purple” on May 11.

Every show is unique, with a different theme and brand new material.
