Longtime hospice volunteer and supporter Virginia Laken was recognized at the Winona Health Hospice Advisory Board meeting on Thursday, December 13. Laken has supported hospice efforts in the community for many years and the advisory board wanted to recognize her service.
Hospice is a team-oriented program that provides support for those who have a terminal illness. It involves expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support tailored to the patient’s/family’s needs and wishes. In addition to medical staff, the hospice team includes a social worker, chaplain and volunteers, all working together to ensure the patient’s needs are being met.
