January is National Radon Action Month

Radon is the leading environmental cause of cancer deaths in the United States and the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.

Radon is an odorless, colorless and tasteless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in Minnesota soils. It can enter into all kinds of homes through cracks or openings in walls or foundations. The only way for residents to know if their home has radon is to test.

Testing is easy, inexpensive and only takes three-seven days. Winona County Environmental Services, located at 225 West Second Street in Winona, has short-term test kits available for $5. Office hours are on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (excluding holidays). If you have any questions, please call 507-457-6520.
