Jefferson Elementary staff challenged the entire school to donate 100 items total to the Winona Humane Society and the Winona Warming Center by the 100th day of school. With immense support, Jefferson Elementary families donated over 200 items to the humane society and 108 items to the warming center. These items included dog and cat food, toys, Frontline and soft treats for the Winona Humane Society and hand warmers and socks for the Winona Warming Center.
Jefferson Elementary staff selected the Winona Humane Society and Warming Center because of this year’s drastic cold temperatures. In the classrooms, teachers and students talked about how extreme weather affects not only animals but also people. It was a great conversation with students and it gave them an opportunity to give back to their community.
