The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a beginner boating class on Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. that meets all the requirements for the Minnesota and Wisconsin boater safety certificates, and may also qualify you for a discount on your boating insurance (contact your insurance agent to verify). In the About Boating Safety (ABS) course participants will learn the identification of navigational aids, elementary boat handling, required safety equipment, and the rules for using the local waterways, as well as trailering techniques, knots and line handling, anchoring and emergency procedures. Students will take home a short test to mail in for their Minnesota certificate, or can gain their Wisconsin certification by supplying the instructor with their Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources number.
