The Winona YMCA Winfins swim team held a banner-hanging ceremony on Thursday, June 6. The Winfins had five swimmers place third or better in seven events across their championship meet season. Aubrey Ebersold had one banner hung for the team’s sole individual first-place finish. She won the nine to 10 age group 50-yard fly during the 2019 Minnesota YMCA State Championship meet. Ebersold is in the same age group next season and will be striving for back-to-back first-place finishes.
Kyler Ernst had one banner hung for her second-place finish in the 15-and-over 100 back. She finished with a lifetime best of 1:04.08.
The nine to 10 200 free relay of Josie Rupple, Ebersold, Piper Jones, and Hannah Benter took home a state first-place finish with all three of the winning teams within 0.32 seconds of each other.
The relay of Ernst, Brooke Rolbiecki, Elle Lettner, and Johanna Rupple had two banners hung for second- and third-place finishes at the state and 2019 YMCA North Central Regional Championship Meet in the 15-and-over 200 medley. This relay team has three 15-year-old girls who are returning for multiple seasons with their sights on more top finishes.
Finally, Lettner hung two banners for her individual finishes. At state, she placed third in the 15-and-over 500 free, second in the 1000 free, and third in the regional 1,000 free. In one year of swimming the 1,000, Lettner has dropped 45 seconds. With the banners up the Winfins are kicking off their summer season; any interested swimmers should contact head coach Alex Jones at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit winonaymca.org.
