SE Flyers win gold 18u at State Tourney

The SE Flyers won the 18u Gold State Girls Fastpitch Tournament on the weekend of July 13-14. This tournament featured the state’s best 18u teams in the USA Gold League, and the Flyers went 4-0!

The last game was played at the Gopher Jane Sage Cowles Stadium, where they beat the Rochester Royals 7-4. In the championship game there was some great Flyers’ defensive plays made, one of which was a homerun-robbing catch made by Ella Wieneke in left field. There was nice shortstop fielding by Amanda Franke and a very tough centerfielder, Emilee Buringa. The team’s offense was led by Buringa and Lexy Chase, both batting .625 for the weekend. The SE Flyers had a great year, going 30 wins with only three losses. They have taken first in three other tournaments: Lakeville Grand Slam, Eagan DnD, and the Rochester USSSA National Qualifier.

In Mankato they came in second place, beaten in the championship game by an Australian 17u World Junior Olympic team 2-0. The SE Flyers finished the season off at the 18u Northern Nationals in Sioux Falls, S.D., from July 24-28, where they took second.
