$17,840 raised to support Leukodystrophy research
The first annual Super Gav 5K and Super Kids Race organized to honor the memory of Gavin Quimby, better known in Winona as Super Gav, was a huge success! The sponsorship support, as well as the support of more than 300 5K racers and 100 Super Kid race participants, raised $17,840 for The Gavin Quimby Research Fund. The funds will benefit the Leukodystrophy Center at the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Children’s Hospital. The success of this race gives hope for more options, support, and success stories for those families affected by Leukodystrophy.
Super Gav’s parents, Nick and Shanna Quimby, presented the research doctors at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital with a check to continue Leukodystrophy research efforts.
“Watching the red capes flying, seeing the sea of Super Gav T-shirts, and knowing that so many came together to support our mission was really special. Our awesome Winona community, friends and family, and others who believe in our cause that sponsored us touched our hearts in a way we cannot put into words,” said Shanna Quimby.
