Saint Mary's University is inviting the public to the first "SMU 10K" nordic ski race, SMU athletic director Chris Kendall announced Monday.
"We're blessed with great ski trails right here on campus," Kendall said.
"We want to showcase them by inviting skiers of all abilities to our first public event."
The classic-style citizens ski race will be held on Sunday, Jan. 25 at Saint Mary's University, home to one of the region's finest cross country trail systems. The trails wind through the bluffs and valleys above the Mississippi River.
The race is open to all individuals, with a mass start slated for 11 a.m. On-site registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the SMU Toner Student Center. Cost is $20, which includes a souvenir race bib and an "SMU 10K" knit hat. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in three categories: 17-under, 18-44, and 45-over.
