Young farmers invited to leadership conference


Young Farmers and Ranchers from across Minnesota are invited to attend "Storming the Hill" Leadership Conference to be held February 6-8 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis. The conference is sponsored by the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers State Committee and the Minnesota State Cattlemen's Association.

Attendees will transition from citizens to elected representatives in one day. They will learn: how a bill is started, how a conference committee can alter a bill, how to debate the bill on the floor, and, at the end of the session, vote on the bill using the House electronic voting system to determine if the bill will succeed. Governor Tim Pawlenty has been invited to welcome conference attendees to the Minnesota State Capitol.

Informational sessions on attacking the issues and grassroots lobbying, effective speaking and others have been scheduled. In addition, Al Christopherson, president of the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation and Steve Brake, president of the Minnesota State Cattlemen's Association will address conference participants.Conference registration includes lodging, meals and programming for only $125 per person based on double occupancy. Registration fee for a single room is $225. Saturday only registration without lodging is $85.00 per person. Sponsorships to the event may be offered through your County Farm Bureau or area Cattlemen's Association. Registration deadline is January 15.

Childcare registration is $55 per child for ages infant - 12 years old. Registration includes meals and licensed daycare by the YWCA one block from the hotel. Supervised swimming will be available. Daycare hours are Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. - Noon.
