Hagedorn’s Women’s Business Center bill approved by Small Business Committee

(10/2/2019)

H.R. 4405, the bipartisan “Women’s Business Centers Improvements Act of 2019,” introduced by Congressman Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) and Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS-03), was unanimously approved by the House Small Business Committee.

The legislation supports women entrepreneurs nationwide by modernizing and strengthening the Women Business Centers (WBC) program by increasing access to training, counseling and assistance plans that are essential to growing new businesses and our economy.

“I thank Representative Davids for her leadership and my colleagues on the Small Business Committee for their support,” said Hagedorn. “We are one step closer to more effectively promoting women entrepreneurship and empowering a new generation of business leaders to achieve the American Dream,” he said.

“I thank Representative Hagedorn for his hard work on this bill. This legislation will help to bring greater efficiency and other modernizations to the Women’s Business Centers program,” said House Small Business Committee Ranking Member Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH).

The bill now awaits further consideration by the full House of Representatives.
Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota’s First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family’s grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim’s father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all Southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies. Hagedorn serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Small Business to promote farming, Main Street enterprises and Southern Minnesota’s way of life.
