Winona County PartnerSHIP (SHIP), the local Statewide Health Improvement Partnership grantee, is proud to support the Goodview Farmers Market as it prepares for its third season. SHIP is also excited to provide funding to The Crossings Center, a regional family event and youth center in Lewiston, as it prepares to launch a farmers market this year.

Shannon Randall of the city of Goodview and Joel Hennessy of The Crossings Center attended the 2019 Minnesota Farmers Market Association Conference and annual meeting in St. Cloud, Minn., thanks to support from SHIP. Conference attendees discussed different ways to address market issues, as well as potential marketing and programming ideas.

The Goodview Farmers Market will launch a new website this year, purchase a machine to accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Electronic Benefits Transfer (SNAP/EBT), offer free cooking matters classes and potentially introduce the Market Bucks matching program for SNAP participants.

The Crossings Center will début a farmers market as part of a weekly night out event with entertainment, locally sourced concessions and fun for the whole family.

“It was a really good conference,” said Randall. “I learned how to use social media more strategically for the market, the steps needed to serve SNAP participants and was introduced to the Market Bucks matching program. We also had a session with market manager panels with open questions and answers, which was very insightful. I’m excited for this market season!”

“The conference provided many contacts and resources to help launch our market successfully,” stated Hennessy. “I was especially happy to learn about the many positive effects farmers markets are having on the hosting communities and their citizens.”

The Goodview and Crossings Center markets are seeking vendors for the 2019 season. For information about the Goodview Farmers Market visit, email or call 507-452-1630. For information about the Lewiston Area Farmers Market visit, email or call 507-522-3600.
