August 19

There will be an informational session for the Winona City Council on Monday, August 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the Wenonah Room on the third floor of City Hall, 207 Lafayette Street, to discuss proposed updates to the Unified Development Code.

This meeting is open to the public.

August 22

August’s Theology Uncorked
event will recall personal memories for many as Father Kurt Farrell — pastor of St. Theo and St. James Catholic parishes in Albert Lea, Minn., and Twin Lakes, Minn., respectively — gives his talk, “Reliving the Great Fr. Fabian.” Father Andrew C. Fabian, OP, AFSC, spent the majority of his Dominican priesthood teaching, with nearly 50 years of that spent as a beloved — and/or feared! — professor of philosophy at St. Mary’s University in Winona. The legacy lives on as Fr. Kurt recalls Fr. Fabian’s story and philosophy. Come to the meeting at The Oaks Wine Bar, 75 West Third Street in Winona, on Thursday, August 22, at 7 p.m.

The Minnesota City Community Readers will meet on Thursday, August 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the city hall at 149 Mill Street in Minnesota City. The book being discussed is “Cloudsplitter” by Russell Banks. All readers are invited whether or not you have actually read the book. Copies of “Radio Girls” by Sarah Jane Stratford will be handed out and that book will be discussed at the next meeting on September 26.

August 25

The Eagle Valley Church located on County Road G outside Fountain City will be holding its annual meeting and services on Sunday, August 25. The church service will be at 10 a.m. with a potluck and meeting to follow. Everyone is welcome and the group looks forward to seeing old friends, making new friends and enjoying fantastic food!
