St. Martin’s Cross Country team starts season strong


The St. Martin’s Mustang cross country team participated in the first meet of the year on Saturday, September 8, at Lake Park in Winona. They competed alongside six other schools in their conference. Blake Herber, grade four, placed first in the fifth-grade boys division, while sister Lilianna Herber placed second in the seventh-grade girls division. She was one second from the leader.

Samantha Going took second in the fifth-grade girls division, while brother Jon Going placed second in the seventh-grade boys division. He was four seconds from the leader. 


All races were a mile in length, and the best-posted time for the meet was 5:46. Jon Going posted the second fastest in the meet of 5:50. The team will compete next week in Lewiston, and in early October at the state meet in Mayer, Minn.
