See Orpheum’s ‘Frozen’


WSU Retiree Center trip May 13

The WSU Retiree Center is offering another opportunity to see a fantastic musical in the Twin Cities. On Wednesday, May 13, the will go to the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis to see a performance of Disney’s “Frozen: The Broadway Musical.” The center has secured great main-level seats for the show.

“Frozen” is an all-new production created for the stage by an award-winning creative team, led by Academy Award® winners Jennifer Lee, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, and Robert Lopez, and Tony Award®-winning director Michael Grandage. It features the songs you know and love from the original film plus an expanded score with a dozen new musical numbers.

Attendees are invited to bring children and grandchildren along on the trip. The play is intended for children ages eight and up and it is not recommended for anyone under the age of four.

Before the play begins at 7:30 p.m., the group will eat an early dinner at 5 p.m. at the Rock Bottom Brewery (the cost of dinner is included in the price of the trip). The Rock Bottom Brewery is conveniently located just across the street from the Orpheum on Hennepin Avenue. The group will have a private room that overlooks the Orpheum and will have three menu options, including fish and chips (beer-battered cod served with French fries, apple coleslaw, and housemade Cajun remoulade), a classic burger (served medium-well done with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and red onion, with French fries), margherita pizza, (vegetarian option with mozzarella, tomatoes, roasted garlic, olive oil, and basil). The meal will end with a dessert of a warm triple chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, fudge sauce, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings. Dinner includes unlimited coffee, tea, and fountain soda. Attendees will also have access to a cash bar, which includes Rock Bottom’s handcrafted ales and lagers (not included in the price of the trip).

2 p.m. – Board bus at Phillips Bus Company parking lot (12th and Main)
4:30 p.m. – Arrive in Minneapolis
5 p.m. – Early dinner at Rock Bottom Brewery
7:30 p.m. – Showtime (plan to arrive at 7 p.m. to find your seats)
9:45 p.m. — Board the bus for Winona
Midnight – Arrive at the Phillips Bus Company parking lot

The cost of the trip is $110 per person and includes your ticket to the play, dinner at Rock Bottom Brewery (not including alcoholic beverages), the bus ride (including snacks and water) and tip for the bus driver.

The center has reserved 50 tickets for the play, so please register soon if you’re interested! Remember, you do not need to be a WSU retiree to go on this trip. The trip is open to everyone. Organizers prefer that you register online if possible. If you are not able to register online you must stop in at the Retiree Center (227 West Wabasha) with a check payment. Organizers are no longer able to accept course registration requests over the phone. The Retiree Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday. You may want to call 507-457-5565 before you stop in to make sure that center staff are not in meetings or away for an event.

If a day trip must be canceled due to insufficient enrollment, inclement weather, or emergency circumstances, you will be notified as soon as possible and receive a full refund. You may cancel your registration and receive a full refund if we receive your withdrawal and refund request in writing, via email, mail, or in person, at least five full business days before the date of the trip.
