The 74th Annual Winona FFA Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday, April 10, at Winona Senior High School. Over 200 parents, guests, and members were present.

Winona FFA President Melonie Harris was master of ceremonies. Winona FFA advisor Brian Sather recognized the chapter’s most outstanding members with awards based on their leadership skills, chapter involvement, and individual projects.

The Star Member awards went to Tyffanie Denzer, daughter of Eric and Wendy Denzer; Melonie Harris, daughter of Judith and Gregory Denzer and Patrick Harris; and Trinity Hugunin, daughter of Mark and Amy Hugunin.

Star Greenhand awards went to Bailey Haris, daughter of Judith and Gregory Denzer and Patrick Harris; and Laceylyn Merchlewitz, daughter of Rodney and Tammy Merchlewitz.
Star Discovery Degree awards went to Trentton Denzer, son of Eric and Wendy Denzer; and Makenzie Drache daughter of Brian and Sandra Drache.

Malaina Conrad, daughter of Maria Sargeant and Randy Conrad, was awarded the Star Freshman Award and Kayla Drache, daughter of Brian and Sandra Drache, was awarded the Star Senior Award.

Melonie Harris was recognized as being the chapter’s most active senior female member when she was named Chapter Sweetheart. Harris was also awarded the Retiring President’s Plaque for serving as 2017-18 Winona FFA president.

The Winona FFA recognized the top individuals on each contest team with a plaque. These winners were Brailey Davis for Best Informed Greenhand; Trinity Hugunin for Top Job Interview and Top Talent Act; Bailey Harris for Top Scrapbook; Tyffanie Denzer for Top Nursery/Landscape Judge, Top Public Speaking and Top Talent Act; Melonie Harris for Top Fish and Wildlife Judge; Abigail Steinfeldt for Top Dairy Judge; Trentton Denzer for Top Talent Act; Malaina Conrad for Top Creed Speaker; and Nicholas Hesterberg for Top Talent Act.
The first degree of membership in the FFA is the Discovery Degree. This degree was awarded to Nicole Tye.

The second degree is the Greenhouse Degree. This was awarded to Malaina Conrad, Trenton Denzer, Nicholas Hesterberg, and Abigail Steinfeldt.

The third degree is the Chapter Degree and it was awarded to Bailey Harris, Ellie Linville, and Laceylyn Merchlewitz.

The prestigious Minnesota State FFA Degree plaque and chain were awarded to Tyffanie Denzer, Melonie Harris, and Trinity Hugunin.

The Winona FFA gave honorary memberships to community members who have been active supporters of the chapter. This year’s awards went to Scott Albright, Eric and Wendy Denzer, Brian and Sandra Drache, Mark and Amy Hugunin, and Linda Wendler.

The 20th annual Roger Metz Pitchfork awards were presented by Mr. Jeff Metz to active FFA supporters who had already received the honorary degree. The winners were Marilee Fish and Mindy Moger.

The banquet was put on by the 2017-18 Winona FFA Officer Team wit ha guest presentation by the Winona FFA Alumni President Roger Aldinger. Winona FFA President Melonie Harris delivered her retiring address.

The flag bearers were Abxigail Steinfeldt and Malaina Conrad, and Katie Erdmann made her 11th annual Winona FFA Quilt, which was auctioned of by Freddy Frickson to support the Winona FFA.

The Winona FFA Alumni awarded scholarships to the following FFA members: Eighth-grade FFA Jacket to Makenzie Drache, the Kenny Mueller Memorial Scholarship to Tyffanie Denzer, the Mike Rumpca Memorial Scholarship to Melonie Harris, and the Eugene Marg Scholarship to Trinity Hugunin. Winona Culvers Eighth-Grade Jacket Scholarships were awarded to Brailey Davis and Mya Linville.
