Anita J. Norton, age 77, of Conception, rural Kellogg, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 15, 2007, with her loving family at her side. She was born November 11, 1930, on the family farm in Oakwood Township of Wabasha County, the daughter of Ernest and Catherine (Marx) Klein. After her father's sudden death when she was two years old the family moved to Wabasha. There she grew up and graduated from St. Felix High School in 1948, graduating salutatorian of her class. She married William "Pat" Norton June 14, 1952, at St. Felix Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family at Conception in rural Kellogg.
Anita was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Conception and an active member of the church's Council of Catholic Women. She was a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 Auxiliary in Wabasha. She enjoyed playing cards and gardening. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings and going fishing with them and she especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Pat Norton, Kellogg, MN; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jon Wallerich, Wabasha, MN, Diane and Greg Speedling, Plainview, MN, Sharon and Rick Fricker, Rochester, MN; sons and daughters-in-law, Ernie and Sharon Norton, Plainview, MN, Brian and Sandy Norton, Kellogg, MN, Jeff and Sherri Norton, Plainview, MN, Gerard and Kim Norton, St. Charles, MN, David Norton and special friend, Suzette Miller, Plainview, MN; 24 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Ruth Klein, Wabasha, MN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doreen Stamschror, Wabasha, MN, Margaret and Dennis Speedling, Wabasha, MN, Betty and Roland Schmidt, Wabasha, MN, Helen Schilz, Minneapolis, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins. Granddaughter, Christine Wallerich, and infant brother, Robert Klein, preceded her in death.
A funeral Mass was offered on Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Conception, rural Kellogg, with the Reverend Milo Ernster officiating. Interment was in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery at Conception. Casket bearers were her five sons, Ernie, Brian, Jeff, Gerard and David. Honorary bearers were her grandsons, Wyatt, Tyler, Brady, Cameron, Anton, McCaleb, Joshua and Jacob Norton, Nicholas Wallerich, Dale Speedling and Ryan Doane.
