George Kohner died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona, MN. George was born the youngest of seven children to Henry and Elizabeth (Meyer) Kohner, who farmed in the Rollingstone/Altura area.

When George was 12, he and his mother moved to Winona after his father's death. He attended Winona Senior High School graduating in 1946. On Dec. 29, 1949, he married Martha Sueper, and they became life-long Winona/Goodview residents.

They had three children: Julie (Marty) Malin of Peterson, MN.; Douglas (Roxy) Kohner of Goodview and Ann Kohner of Hudson, OH.

George worked until retirement at Warner Swazey, first as a welder then as a supervisor. He was a charter member of the Goodview Volunteer Fire Department and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona. George loved to work in his shop and create, also loved to dance, hunt, fish, and play cards with his friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters: Gerald, Lorraine Steinbauer, Sylvester, Alvin, Richard and Elizabeth Laufle.

He is survived by his wife, children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service for George on Friday, December 28, 2007, at 10:30A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona. Friends may call from 9AM to 10:30AM at the Visitation Commons of St. Mary's Church. Burial will be at a later date.

The family wishes memorial gifts be sent to St. Mary's Benevolence Fund at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona, MN. (For those in need of emergency assistance).
