Clarence A. Hedquist, age 85, of Deer River, MN, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born September 24, 1922, in Deer River, the son of Manne and Eugenia (Norman) Hedquist. He attended South, Deer Lake and Fa-wn Lake Country Schools and graduated from Deer River High School in 1940. After high school he went into the construction business, moving to Beverly Hills, CA, to build homes. On May 25, 1949, he married Marilyn Rossi at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne, MN, her home area. Clarence was a contractor and co-owner of Drotts Brothers and Hedquist Construction in Deer River. The business built many homes, lake cabins and businesses in the area. The couple, along with Clarence's brother, Maynard, also owned the Linden Grove Resort on Deer Lake for many years.

Clarence was a member of the Chippewa Masonic Lodge in Deer River. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He and Marilyn enjoyed their trips to the western United States and Canada during their retirement. Most of all, Clarence enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. We will miss our fun- loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Hedquist, Deer River, MN; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Dave Anderson, Deer River, MN, Judy and Bob Sanford, Pine Island, MN; son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Annette Hedquist, Wabasha, MN; ten grandchildren, Ron Anderson, Penny Burger, Dina and Jena Anderson, Vanessa (James) Sedlmayr, LeAnn, Emily and Joseph Hedquist, Heather and Heidi Borgschatz; brother, Maynard Hedquist, Deer River, MN; special niece, Susan (Mark) Wohlrabe, other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His parents and one sister, Mildred Taylor, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2008, at 11:00 am at Clara Lutheran Church in Deer River with the Reverend Vicki Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Itasca Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MN. Friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Saturday, January 5, from 4-8pm where there will be a prayer service at 7 pm, officiated by the Reverend Barbara Knutson. Friends may also call at the church in Deer River on Monday one hour before the service. Personal messages may be sent to the family at www.abbottfh.com.
