On December 30, Genevieve Knopp died peacefully at Saint Anne Extended Health Care in Winona. She would have been 101 years of age in February. She will be remembered by her family, friends, and caregivers for her optimistic attitude and happy smile. She loved to be with her family: sons, Tom (Gail) and Steven (Linda); daughter, Barbara (Dan) Leary; daughter-in-law, Sandra Prigge Knopp; three granddaughters, Nancy (Tim) Hagerty, Anne Knopp, Amy Knopp, three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Simon and Katelyn. Her husband of 70 years, Joseph H. Knopp, died in 1998.

Genevieve was born in Kenmore, North Dakota, to the Reverend John C. and Effie L. Forney. When she was 10 the family moved to Winona, and she attended grade school near their home in Gilmore Valley. She graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1927 and married Joe Knopp in 1928. Together they built the home where they lived for nearly their entire marriage. Joe and Genevieve were long-time members of the Westfield Golf Club, and the Winona YMCA where they played in a badminton group. They enjoyed picnicking, hiking with their friends, and weekends on the river. They attended McKinley Methodist Church in Winona where Genevieve was active in the church circle. She was an originator of a neighborhood coffee klatch that has continued since 1943.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and five sisters; and an infant daughter born in 1936.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, January 9th, at McKinley United Methodist Church, Winona. A private family interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.
