Donald A. Patzner, age 74, of Fountain City, WI, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.
Don was born on April 21, 1937, in Fountain City, WI, to Carl and Ida (Wolfe) Patzner. On July 6, 1963, he was united in marriage with Joan Myers, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia, WI.
He honorably served his country with the United States Army and was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Aid Association. For 35 years, Don worked at the United Building Center lumberyard in Winona, and he most recently was employed at Fleet Farm.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He liked visiting with friends and being with his family. He was very active, liked working in the garden, and loved the outdoors. Don enjoyed life.
Don is survived by his wife, Joan Patzner, Fountain City, WI; three children, Cathy Patzner, Schaumburg, IL, Carol (Brad) TenBarge, Poynette, WI, and Betty (Mark) Wieczorek, East Troy, WI. His three granddaughters are Elizabeth and Emily TenBarge and Angelena Wieczorek. Don is also survived by his brother, Carl (Marie) Patzner; sisters, Josephine (Emil) Grulkowski, Sister Rita Patzner and Patricia Patzner; nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Patzner; and sisters, Dorothy Neumann, Rosella Glodowski, Phyllis Glodowski, Grace Corcoran, and Mary Corcoran.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
The Reverend Richard Colletti will officiate.
Following the Mass, the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 will provide full military honors outside the church.
Don will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia, WI.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Sunday, December 18, 2011, from 3 PM until 6 PM, where the Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary and Prayers will be held at 5:30 PM. There will not be any visitation held on Monday – Please meet at the church for Mass.
