Thelma J. Canar, age 96, died on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Sauer Health Care.
Thelma was born on September 11, 1916, to Louis and Hilda (Nelson) Johnson on a farm six miles east of Galesville, Wis. She graduated from Galesville High School in 1934 and attended Gale College Lutheran Academy for one year.
She spent her summers as a teenager as a counselor at the Ghost Lake Lodge in Northern Wisconsin. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church where she was its church secretary from 1954 until her retirement in 1979.
Thelma married James M. Canar on July 16, 1952, in Galesville. They moved to Winona in the fall of 1953.
She is survived by her sister, Helen M. Johnson, Galesville; nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, on April 8, 1974; her parents, brother, Norman, and sister, Lillian.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Michelle Rem officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, rural Centerville, Wis.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
