Della Marie (Ellinghuysen) Rupprecht, age 78, of Winona, and formerly of rural Lewiston, Minn., died on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at her home.Della was a longtime resident of Lewiston until moving to Winona in 2012.
Della Marie was born on November 8, 1934, in Hillsdale Township, Minn., to Ernest Jon and Evelyn Mae (Connaughty) Ellinghuysen. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Silo in rural Lewiston, Minn. She attended the Hillsdale country school and then Immanuel Lutheran School. She attended Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, Minn., and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1952. Della was united in marriage with Everett Gilbert Rupprecht on September 12, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Emil Geistfeld.
Prior to her marriage, Della worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. At age 52 she entered the College of St. Teresa in Winona. When it closed, she transferred to Winona State University and graduated in 1992 with a bachelor of science degree in social work. She was an advocate for women and was employed by the Women’s Resource Center in Winona from 1992 until 2010. Della lived with her husband, Everett, in the Lewiston area, where they farmed until his retirement. Everett preceded her in death on June 29, 2008. Della was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Walther League, Ladies Aid, Choir, and Fellowship/Couples Club.Though she quietly witnessed to her faith it was a vital part of her life.
Della will be remembered as a loving and nurturing mom, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother.She was creative and fun. She loved nature, walking in the woods, and camping and fishing, especially with her very special aunt, Betty. Della enjoyed gardening, caring for her plants and loved all types of flowers, her favorite being the red rose. She loved feeding wild birds, was good with animals and especially loved wild animals. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, playing cards and bowling. Della was very generous in her love for her family, and she enjoyed spending time with them. She loved music and often sang to and with her children. She attended their sporting events and plays, and drove for many fieldtrips to Rupprechts Valley.Despite her recent illness, Della was a strong woman who lived life to its fullest.
Della is survived by her sons: Jeffrey Rupprecht, Crystal, Minn., Kim (Janet) Rupprecht, Pine Island, Minn., Dayton Rupprecht, Austin, Tex., Bradley Rupprecht, Salt Lake City, Utah, Thomas (Jeremi) Rupprecht, Roseville, Minn.; daughters: Jayne (Rupprecht) (Vernon) Kettner, Winona, Minn., Mary Rupprecht; Winona, Minn., granddaughters: Katherine Rupprecht, Eagan, Minn., Laura Rupprecht, Boston, Mass., Lauren and Erin Rupprecht, Pine Island, Minn., Ella and Zo Rupprecht, Roseville, Minn.; grandsons: Daniel Rupprecht, Eyota, Minn., Zachary Rupprecht, Austin, Minn., Jordan Rupprecht, New York, N.Y.; great-grandson: Hunter Holst; sisters: Yvonne (Ellinghuysen) (William) Grutzmacher, Altoona, Wis., and Karen (Ellinghuysen) (Robert) Olson, Minnesota City, Minn.; sisters-in-law: Martha Rupprecht, Altamonte Springs, Fla.,Carol Rupprecht, Holmen, Wis., Charlotte Rupprecht, Utica, Minn., and Betty Ellinghuysen, Brooksville, Fla. Della was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, godchildren, cousins and dear friends from her work and church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, her parents, Ernest and Evelyn Ellinghuysen; her brother, Darwin Ellinghuysen; and her dear aunt Betty (Connaughty) Ellinghuysen.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Lewiston, Minn.The Reverends William C. Meilner and Vernon R. Kettner officiated. Charles Bonow was the organist. Della was laid to rest in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.
