Adank, Roger W.


Roger W. Adank, age 83, of Fountain City, Wis., died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Lake Winona Manor, Winona, Minn.

Roger was born December 13, 1930, to Samuel and Meta (Laehn) Adank in Winona, Minn. He was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Winona Senior High School. On August 27, 1952, he married Patricia A. Schaffner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, Wis. This marriage was blessed with six children. Pat preceded him in death on September 15, 2013.

He was the owner of H & F Roettigers, Inc., Fountain City, and was formerly employed at Fountain City Telephone, Co. as a lineman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a 60-year member of the Fountain City American Legion Post 56. Roger was a former member of the Fountain City Fire Department, the city council, Fountain City Community Choir, Church choir and Knights of Columbus at the Immaculate Conception Church, as well as a former member of the Fountain City Lions Club. He was published as an author with his book “A Road Just Traveled” and enjoyed woodworking during his retirement.

Roger is survived by six children: Carol (Gene) Dalrymple, Beavercreek, Ohio, Roger F. (Jan) Adank, Fountain City, Wis., Gregory (Valerie) Adank, Waynesville, Mo., James (Christine) Adank, Fargo, N.D., Suzanne (James) Hughes, Winfield, Ill., and Barbara Large; La Crosse, Wis.; 17 grandchildren: Michael (Vallerie)Dalrymple, Ben (Nicki) Adank, Mike Adank, Jeff Adank, Becky (Darren) Benson, Nicolette (Steven) Smith, Travis (Jennifer) Adank, Hannah, Josh, Samantha, Zoe, Tycho, Amelia, Kristin (Jeremy) Anderson-Cronin, Pamela Allen, Shannon (David) Lauf, and Brandon Henderson; 16 great-grandchildren: Isabella, Alexander, Dylan, Emma, Laura, Alex, Katie, Drake, Aliegha, Isaac, Alexander, Peyton, Caleb, Brayden, Gabriella, Lillianna; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patricia, son-in-law, Willard Large, a brother, Bill; and two sisters: Darlene Wolfe and Bonnie Plapp.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, Wis., with Rev. Brian Jazdzewski officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fountain City, in the spring and military burial rites will be provided by the Cochrane Fountain City American Legion Post 56.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.
