Anne Florence Kaufman, 89, of Winona, died peacefully Saturday, December 13, 2014, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.

Anne was born December 22, 1924, in Villeneuve, Alberta, Canada, to Alexander and Delina L’Hirondelle. She was the oldest of nine children. Anne met the love of her life, Donald Kaufman, in Edmonton, Alberta, during WWII while he was stationed there as an airman. They married on October 2, 1946, and after the war, traveled to his hometown of Mankato, Minn., to begin their life together.

Don found a career with Bell Telephone, which led him and Anne to Winona where they raised their family and enjoyed their years together until separated by Don’s passing in 2010.

Anne was an excellent homemaker, creating a comfortable home and baking and cooking for her appreciative family. She took many summer road trips with her family to visit her Canadian parents and relatives. Anne loved to feed the birds that lived around her home. She enjoyed reading newspapers every day and rarely missed the local TV news. She loved music and loved to dance. Don had courted her dancing to the Big Bands of the 1940s and their romance continued in their later years as members of the Hilltop Dance Club in Fountain City, Wis. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish.

Anne was a great friend to many and her family meant the world to her. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Annette Kaufman of the Twin Cities; son, Edward Kaufman of Boulder, Colo.; one granddaughter, Marielle Mohs of Little Rock, Ark.; and four siblings, Gladys (Wilf), Ron (Diane), Ellen (Cal) and Marilyn.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Alan; her parents; and four siblings, Paul, Octavie, Doreen and Ernie.

Memorial Mass will be 2 p.m., Friday, December 26, 2014, at the Chapel of Our Lady at St. Anne Extended Healthcare with the Reverend James Berning officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until the time of the service. She will be laid to rest next to her husband and son at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Hoff Celebration of Life Center – Goodview is assisting the family with arrangements.
