Nottleman, Berdonna Marion

(12/15/2016)

Berdonna Marion Nottleman, 89, was called home on December 13, 2016.

She was born in Dakota, Minn., on July 7, 1927, to Harry and Freida (Gile) Luedke and had three sisters, La Vonne (Beach), Norma (Swett) and Jean (Trocinski). As a girl she took tap dancing lessons and performed for local audiences. She graduated from Winona High School. In 1945, she married Earl Nottleman, moved to La Moille, Minn., and began her married life on the Nottleman family farm. Together she and Earl had three children, David (who died shortly after birth), Judy and Sam.

Berdonna was a successful Avon lady for many years and later helped manage the Green Terrace Mobile Home Park that she and Earl owned. They enjoyed many years of dancing, following their son, Sam’s, bands and winning dance contests. They also loved snowmobiling in the winter and going on their houseboat in the summer. She and Earl traveled extensively around the U.S., South America and Europe. Her favorite trips were to Hawaii. She attended Cedar Valley Lutheran Church.

Berdonna (also called “Sis” and “Nana”) will be remembered for her love of bling — jewelry and bright sparkly clothes and shoes, as well as her talent in the kitchen (homemade pickles, tomato juice and jams, fresh raspberry pie, carrot cake and many varieties of Christmas cookies). She was a talented knitter and loved making beautiful sweaters and colorful baby clothes and booties.

Berdonna is survived by her husband, Earl; daughter, Judy (Chip Rinderle); son, Sam (Gayle); five grandchildren, Carl (Angie), Erin and Kyle Rinderle, Daisy and Hattie Nottleman; five great-grandchildren, Haley, Taylor and Nick Rinderle, MarreaGalleghos, Niko Silva; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and infant son.

Berdonna struggled for many years with Alzheimer’s disease and was cared for by many wonderful people at Lake Winona Manor, Sugar Loaf Senior Living and Winona Hospice. The family is grateful for all who showed her love and kindness.
