Shirley Ann Dieterman, age 81, of Winona, died on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at her home.
Shirley was born on February 9, 1936, in Winona, to Max and Irene (Cisewski) Molock. She attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Cotter High School in 1954. She received her B.A. degree in biology from Alverno College, Milwaukee, Wis., in 1958, and her Masters of Science Degree (biology) from Saint Mary’s University, Winona, in 1974. After college she was employed at Cleveland Clinic, Argonne National Laboratories, Watkins, Saint Mary’s University chemistry department, and Viterbo University chemistry department. Various temporary jobs included Federal Bakery, Park and Rec Winona, Saint Mary’s College library and admissions office and Saint Mary Lake Lodge Resort in Montana.
On June 18, 1960, she married Larry Dieterman at Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church, Winona. This marriage was blessed with four children. When the children arrived, her career changed. She became a Girl Scout Brownie Leader; Junior Girl Scout Leader; Cub Scout Den Mother; St. Mary’s Church Parish Council member; Saint Mary’s Church choir for many years; nursery school Board of Directors; various Birthright positions, including director; and she also volunteered at Saint Mary’s grade school library. She enjoyed singing, ice skating, dancing, learning, traveling, being a part of Saint Mary’s University from age four, loved concerts and musicals, and she loved to play bridge with her friends and “easier” games with her kids and grandkids.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Larry, Winona; four children, Dan (Eve Marie), Lake City, Minn., Scott (Danielle), Winona, Constance (Gregg Luebke) Damgaard, Plainview, Minn., and Doug (Terrie), Winona; 10 grandchildren, Zach (Jennie), Kelsey (fiancé Alex Martin), Lucian (Nishaat Sheik), Tyler (Heather), Kirsten, Cody (Brittney Marques), Felicia (Dylan Troyer), Wren, Abree, and Nadia; one great-grandson, Owen; a sister, Marilyn Stigler, Waukesha, Wis.; a former son-in-law, Pete Damgaard; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Tony Stigler.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Winona, with Rev. James Berning officiating. Interment will be at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona, with vigil prayers at 4 p.m. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Visitation Commons of Saint Mary’s Church.
Casket bearers will be Tyler Dieterman, Zach Dieterman, Lucian Dieterman, Cody Damgaard, Pete Damgaard, and Anthony Stigler.
