After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Rice (nee Miller) peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, in Winona, Minn. There can be little doubt that the Angels of the Lord carried her on their wings as she passed and she was immediately greeted by the Lord Himself.
Born on April 29, 1959, in Wayne, Mich., Cindy, and her son Brandon, moved to Winona, Minn., in spring 1999 to be with her family. On that beautiful day this past Wednesday afternoon, Cindy took her final walk surrounded by her devoted family and friends.
Cindy is survived by her loving son, Brandon Michael Rice; her grandson, DiMarko Rice; her sister, Nancy (Rick) Schwein; along with her three nephews and their families, Scott and Jenny Schwein and their children, Lucy, Stella and Jack, Matt and Kayla Schwein and their children Charlie and Teddy, along with Jeff Schwein. Cindy is also survived by her former husband, Gerald Rice. Cindy’s surviving cousins include Esther Harris, Martha (Dino) Malle, Sherry (Dennis) Disney, Dennis and Bill Miller as well as Richard (Dominique), David (Janet) and Jim (Carol) Berry. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Alexander and Mary Juanita (Berry) Miller.
Cindy lived her life simply and with extraordinary dignity. Cindy’s profound faith, quiet resolve and gracious acceptance of her reality will endure as a model for all of us who were blessed to have her in our lives.
Cindy dearly loved her family and her friends at both Cornerstone and Pleasant Valley Church, and a rousing game of cards or an evening with her bingo ladies brought delight to her life. Many across the country will miss her twice-daily, simple text messages.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona. A celebration of her life will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, at Pleasant Valley Church, Winona, with Pastor Joe McConkey and Pastor Greggory “Gooch” Olcott officiating. Interment for Cindy will be with her mother at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona, Minn., immediately following the celebration.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent me, has eternal life,” (John 5:24).
