Meyer, Dennis John

Dennis John Meyer, 58, of Winona, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at his home. He was born on September 20, 1959, in Caledonia, Minn., to Lester and Donna (Johnson) Meyer. Dennis grew up in New Albin, Iowa, and graduated from Kee High in Lansing, Iowa.

His community involvement and leadership started in high school where he was part of the Future Business Leaders of America and served on the student council. He also took great joy in music and theater. He would often share memories of “Fiddler on the Roof” as the lead role: Tevye. Following high school Dennis moved to La Crosse, Wis., to attend Western Technical College where he graduated with an associate degree in computer technology. After graduation Dennis worked at La Crosse Rubber Mills for a short time before he began working for Knitcraft in Winona. He worked there as IT manager for more than 36 years and served as vice president for the last five. Knitcraft is where he met the love of his life, Pauline Gloyne. They were married on February 22, 1985, and welcomed their daughter, Leah, in 1989. Dennis was a member of Central Lutheran Church and was very passionate about his involvement in the community. He served on the Goodview City Council for 16 years, served with Winona Area Chamber of Commerce in a handful of roles including chairman of the board, as well as worked closely with the Goodview Business Association and WAPS Community Task Force. In addition to being so active in the community, Dennis enjoyed regular golf outings, meticulously caring of his Mustang and yard, and having backyard bonfires. His entire life he enjoyed camping, canoeing, and various other extra curricula with his farm family.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pauline; children, Leah Meyer and Brent Holmes; father, Lester; siblings, Debra (William) Schultz and Terry (Eileen) Meyer; sister-in-law, Carlene Gloyne; nieces and nephews, Emma (Austin) Nolden, James Schultz, Laura and Sam Meyer, Kevin (Betsy) Gloyne, and Kolby Gloyne; his farm family; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
