George H. Wenzel, 96, of Minnesota City, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

George was born on March 25, 1922, in Hart, Minn., to Albert and Gertrude (Brand) Wenzel. George married Nellie Ford of Witoka in Winona, Minn., on December 29, 1943. George and Nellie had five children together and were married for 74 years. George worked as a laborer at Bay State Milling Company for most of his life.

George enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing baseball in his younger days. You could always find him watching the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Chicago Cubs. He loved being in his garden right until his death.

George is survived by his wife, Nellie; daughters, Linda (Ernie) Tainter of Winona, Minn., and Jane (Michael) Alexander of Winona, Minn.; sons, George (Mary) Wenzel of Winona, Minn., and Robert “Bob” (Lois) Wenzel of Homer, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John; and granddaughter, Tammy Welter; brothers, Walter (Elaine) Wenzel, Albert (Beverly) Wenzel and Victor Wenzel; and sister, Vernette (Clarence) Belter.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 6 p.m. with visitation starting at 4 p.m at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

George’s family gives special thanks to Dr. Edin, Goodview Police and Rescue, Minnesota City First Responders, Winona Ambulance and Eric Baumgartner.
