Shirley Jean Bublitz, 86, of Winona, Minn., passed away peacefully on March 31, 2019, surrounded by family at Gunderson Health System in La Crosse, Wis.

She was born on a sunny day on September 13, 1932, at the family farm home on German Ridge in Hart, Minn., to Carl and Hazel (Feine) Boehmke. She attended St. Johns Lutheran School in Hart and Rushford High School. On January 12, 1949, she married Milton K. Bublitz, her husband of 51 years, and together they raised two sons and three daughters.

She began a career at the Winona Knitting Mills where she worked for 32 years. She enjoyed going to plays with her sisters, bird watching, baking, traveling, crocheting, reading, online shopping and most of all spending time with her family. She was strong in her Lutheran faith and kept very active as the matriarch of her family.

Shirley is survived by sons, Michael (Selma) Bublitz, Winona, and Mitchell (Jan Deen) Bublitz, Houston, Minn.; daughters, Susan Brett, Goodview, Minn., and Shannon (Dana) Hanson, St. Charles, Ill.; son-in-law, Mark Fredrickson, Winona; brothers, Charles (Marilyn) and Louis (Marlene) Boehmke; sister, Roberta Anderson; sister-in-law, Maxine Boehmke, Rushford, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; dozens of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; daughter, Stacy Fredrickson; son-in-law, James Brett; grandsons, Michael Paul and infant John Robert Bublitz; siblings, Robert, Marcella and infant sister Ellen Boehmke; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Anderson.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Reverend Richard A. Moore will officiate.
